Grocery Shopping is an Adventure

Admittedly I have spent way too much time at restaurants and not at home for a very long time, pretty much my entire adulthood. I am now looking to eliminate processed foods, especially foods that have vegetable oil. Over the past few weeks going out to eat has drastically been cut back to just a couple times a week, and that is only because of scheduling. I have started to enjoy eating at home and learning the art of cooking. This has made grocery shopping into a wonderful adventure!

Last week I was cooking, Egg Roll in a Bowl, a recipe from The Plant Paradox Cookbook by Dr. Gundry. There were quite a bit of ingredients going into this meal, which had me concerned if picky me was going to like this. I found something amazing when I first started the yellow onion, minced garlic, cut green onions, and minced ginger in the sesame oil, the smell was amazing. See, I have always been a sucker for Chinese-American cuisine, when these ingredients were cooking together it smelled like my favorite. From there I knew it was going to be good and it was.

Note: Next time I make it, I will have to tone down the garlic chili sauce because, WOW did it have a kick.

This takes us back to the adventure of grocery shopping, as I am still trying to find the most efficient and cost effective way of doing this. I imagine that this is going to take some time to figure out, as most new things do, but I am having fun working on it. The biggest surprise so far has been the amount of specific items that I am finding at Walmart. Although my distrust for Walmart, and questioning if the products are what the actually say they are, causes me to pause more then I probably should.

And then I found Lucky’s Market in Bloomington, Indiana last night. The prices overall were not that bad, for the type of items I am looking for. My next post I will have to go over what I am looking for when I am shopping and why. While I did not buy much this trip I really enjoyed looking around and finding new items. Their fresh fruit and vegetable selection was amazing. One of the best parts of the store was the aisle where you can scoop your own quantity of different flours and oats. This is great since I don’t always need a 2lb bag of tapioca flour. While Lucky’s is a little bit of a drive for me, about 30 minutes, this might become my main store to shop at.

Until next time, Enjoy!
