Two Key Words Towards Being Successful: Patience and Organization

Patience and organization, these are two things that I have struggled with throughout my life. I am organized, in a very chaotic way that has caused me to misplace some things in the past. And patience, oh this little devil on my shoulder does not even like me talking about the word patience.

WHY AM I TALKING ABOUT PATIENCE AND ORGANIZATION ON A HEALTH BLOG?

PATIENCE

We will start with patience and why this is key to so many things in our lives and how we are absolutely terrible at it. It is no joke that in our social media, internet buying, everything at our fingertips world that we have completely lost the ability to be patient. If there is one thing I have had to learn more then anything with my injury, it has been patience. So why is this so important?

Well I did not gain all of my weight in one day, and my back did not go down hill in one day either. This all happened over time, so to even think that these two issues can be fixed in one day is ludicrous. And there are a few ways that you can satisfy your, “I need it now” portion of the brain:

  • Set short term goals that are obtainable but take a little bit of work to reach. (Example: Five miles walked within the next 48 hours. Or, Meal Plan for the next seven days completely filled out.)
  • Make sure your long term goal has a set date itself and is not just out there as an objective. (Example: Will be under 200lbs for the first time in 17 years by January 2021)
  • Have a daily checklist of things you are going to do and why this will lead you towards reaching your goals. ( Example: – make sure to walk a minimum of 30 minutes today – this will help towards my overall fitness and health goal.)

These three simple ways of keeping your mind moving from day to day will allow you to feel good about the overall direction you are going without going crazy that you are still no where near your long term goal.

ORGANIZATION

Organization is extremely important to keeping up with your goals. Now, let me preface this with a word of caution: I do not keep a strict count of calories, carbs, minutes exercised, or anything else number wise. WHY? Because if I did keep a count on this stuff there is no way that I would ever continue to work on getting in better shape mentally or physically. Some people are able to do this and they are opposite of me because that would be the only way they could stay on task. So, how do I stay organized while also not being so strict I lose interest?

  • This is where the almighty goals and checklist come into play: By having these written down on a white board in front of me there is a daily reminder of what I am working on.
  • Once a week I evaluate the food situation in the house, looking at which foods we should make throughout the week (without a strict schedule) and also what foods will work together well. When I go shopping I have these food items on a list which focuses on good carbs, fresh seafood, grass fed beef, vegetables and more vegetables, organic dairy, among other items focused on a well rounded, healthy, and clean diet.
  • Daily routine, as much as I hate to make a strict schedule because my personal and work schedule can and will change at the drop of a hat, I still have my normal routine. (Example: Check Emails first thing every morning, Coffee, Work, Lunch, Work, Check Evening plans, Final check of emails, Hang out with family/ Dinner, Evening workout, chill time, and then bed )

GET IT TOGETHER

A couple of days ago we talked about motivating yourself, and there is no way you are going to be able to motivate yourself to do something if you are not creating a system of some kind whether really strict or a lose plan with daily reminders. Everyone is different and that is where you have to evaluate yourself and figure out what works best for you. Strict does not work for all and chaotic makes some people crazy, it is completely up to you. What is going to help you succeed?

I am interested in hearing what works for you. Please comment, share, and like below. Follow Stand Athletic on Facebook and Instagram. Have a great weekend and Enjoy!
